Hi all, A girlfriend and I are headed to Germany for the Christmas holidays. She's never been to Europe and wants to visit Paris while we're there. I really don't want to drive there (I hate driving in France and especially Paris), so I was hoping to book some early bird cheap tickets online through the DB website. It's giving me an error about not booking outside of the country online until after Dec 11, which is a bit late for the early bird special. I've tried another site that I use and it's not working either. Can anyone help me out with a solution of where to look?
You´re trying to order the tickets too early. Wait about a week or so and you should be able to order for that time period.
I think the current schedules are only good until the 2nd week end in December. As we get closer to that date, national rail lines will upload their schedules for the next 6 months. This happens every 6 months. People write in wondering why there are only a few international trains into Venice. Trenitalia just hasn't uploaded their schedule yet. If you use the Bahn schedule, and try to use the calendar, the dates after Dec 10 are greyed out and not selectable. If you try to type in a date later than 10.12.11 (European format) it give you a message saying your "input is not inside the timetable period". Tom, you're in Germany. Has the Bahn announce yet over there when the new schedule will be available. If not, she should query every day, because when the tickets do become available, the best priced ones might sell out the first day. And remember, even if the schedule is up dated in the next few weeks, you still cannot book more than 92 days in advance.
Thanks for your reply! I guess after 5 years here there are still things to learn. I never realized that they don't do rolling updates to the train schedules and instead update them every 6 months. I should be fine with the 92 day window as I'm trying to book them for the week after Christmas or just after the first of the year, so that's about two weeks away for 92 days. But thank you again for the information, I'm glad of the warning.
