DB Bahn website

We are having trouble making a booking using the DB website. While it appears there is seat availability during the Selection option ( as some price options indicate they are NOT available at this stage), we find that completion of the details ( including credit card info) leaves us with the comment " It has not been possible to successfully complete your reservation. Please amend the details you have entered and then continue with your booking."

There is really nothing to amend at this stage. When we tweak and resubmit, the response is " No more seats are available on this train, for which a reservation is compulsory."

While we appreciate that there is a limited amount of discounted seats available, today is the first day ( 90 day window) that such tickets are available. We have tried 3 different departure times as well as both the 1st & 2nd class options that appear to be available. All with the same result.

Any one else had this problem? Any recommendations? We appreciate the input.

Thanks for your comments. I have contacted my credit card companies and they have updated their system. I tryed DB again. However, still no luck.

I would like to contact DB ( by email) but can't seem to find their email contact address. When you click on the Contact, it defaults to German.

Looks like the Rail Europe site will be my default option at about $ 100 more for the same train!

Had you already had to put in your credit card number before the site refused to sell you the ticket? If so, that might indicate there is still something wrong with your card. If you hadn't, why not let us know for what date and train you are trying to get tickets and see if one of us can get past the block (without having to buy the ticket)?

Yes, Mark, I've had a similar problem. Discovered when I called US Bank that the banks are on "super alert" for fraud. I explained that I wanted the charge to go through and gave them the approximate charge in euro and dollars as well as the company name. The charge then went through without a problem.
It definitely wasn't a problem with the credit card or the company I was purchasing from, just the fraud alert department.

Last summer, I made two separate purchases of €29 Dauer-Spezial tickets on my credit card through the Bahn website. I had no problem.

Thanks Lee. The date is 4 May 09 from Paris to Munich. The times are 7.24 and 11.24. Both times hsow several discount fares as available. I can input info through all the screens but I then get the "it is not... error".

The site does not indicate the problem is specifically with the credit card. In fact, the only thing that can be amended at that stage is the seat reservation which were the default ( if possible) selections. Again, thanks for your assistance.

OK. I went through the purchase process up to the point where they told me the total price was €44,50 and I had to enter my credit card. If I do that, I could buy a ticket I don't want, so I won't go any farther. Did you get that far?

Lee, thanks again. Yes, I get to the same point, plus I enter the credit information and try to purchase. At that point, I am told that they can't complete.

I was able to find an email for their customer service and submitted my dilemma. Hopefully they will respond with a clarification. I'll let you know if they do for your future reference.

I appreciate your interest and input.

DB has a phone number (in Germany) (int'l code)+ 49 1805 996633. They have several numbers, but I think that is the general one. I've called them 3 times. Usually, the person answering doesn't speak English, but they get someone on soon who does.

I have also been told that there is an email address that works, [email protected], but I have never used it.

That message means the tickets are no longer available for that price, and the system doesn't know what the current special offer price is, so it can't sell them. I had the same problem and spoke to someone at Deutsche Bahn online support desk about it. They said that the offers shown on the ion pages are only estimates based on recent availability of offers and the system only checks live availability when you try to pay. You should call online support on +49 1805 101111 (or just 01805 101111 from Germany) and ask to be transferred to international bookings. They can check the latest live information for you while you're on the phone and you may find they still have a good special offer price for what you want. It took me about 15 minutes to book on the phone including holding and payment.

His response is to a three year old posting. I am sure Mark has solved his problem by now and the situation at Bahn has changed in the past three years.
