Hello. Am planning two separate daytrips in October from Dubrovnik - one to Kotor and another to Mostar. I am wondering if it is easy and safe to do these daytrips via public bus and where do I take these buses from? Or is it better to hire a driver to take us to these places instead? Will the cost be significantly different or is simply hiring a driver the besst option? Help?
In any city, most bus trips to other towns start from the main bus station and Dubrovnik is no exception (google the location). I don't think you need a driver - you can take a public bus (although getting the schedule over the web may be a little tricky, better to check it out once you're on the ground), or you can drive yourself via rental car, or you can sign up for a day tour. Yes, the costs will be significantly different - personal driver (most expensive), tour (in the middle) and bus (really cheap). I took a train/bus combo from Mostar to Dubrovnik and then used a 1-day tour company (through Viator) to see Montanegro. If you can do it, I'd really recommend staying overnight in Mostar. There is a wonderful hotel/ B & B there that was a real highlight, with lovely inkeepers and great breakfast:

Thank you, agnes!
MGorsky, Why did you post this three times? You might want to delete at least one of your duplicate Threads, so that you keep replies in the same place. Cheers!
Hi ken. Only posted it once. Must be a glitch in the rick steve's server. Thanks
For Kotor, I would suggest using one of the many tours from Dubrovnik. It is a full day package, several towns, a good time. For Mostar, while there are tours out of Dubrovnik, the distance does not leave much time to explore. Consider taking a public bus line to Mostar, stay overnight, then bus back the next day.
