Can anyone help with information regarding train travel from Amsterdam to Prague via Leipzig? Our preference is to travel in daylight as opposed to the night train (via Berlin). Thanks.
The best place to get schedules is on the German Rail website. Put in Amsterdam to Prague with Leipzig as a stopover, for 00:00. There is a 12h24m connection leaving Amsterdam at 7:04, getting to Prague at 19:28 with two connections, in Frankfurt and in Dresden. If you book early enough on the Bahn, you could get a Europa-Spezial ticket from Amsterdam to Bad Schandau (last major stop in Germany, a couple of hours from Prague) for as low as €39. You'd still have to get a ticket from Bad Schandau to Prague. The reason for Bad Schandau is that Europa-Spezial tickets must have only one end outside of Germany. You probably want to start the ticket in Amsterdam, so you can only go as far as Schoena on the ticket. Schoena is not a major station and the EC from Dresden does not stop there. The fare from Bad Schandau is about €23, but, again with advance purchase, you can get another Europa-Spezial ticket on the EC from Dresden all the way to Prague starting at €19.
