Is it possible to go from Nimes to Monaco for a day trip by train or any suggestions on the easiest way to do this?
The problem is that given the geography and topography the single train ride takes over 4 hours. So it's possible but does it make sense sitting 8 hours on a train just for walking thru Monaco for 1 hour?
This is very upsetting, isn't there a way to get to
Monaco for a day trip easily.
According to the SNCF website, train trips are infrequent and take more than 5 hours. The problem is that you have to transfer in Marseilles and the trains from there to Monaco stop everywhere. By car, you're still looking at about a three hour trip, one way.
What about taking the train down and getting a room in
Nice for 1 night only, is it close enough to Monaco to
do this. Is there transport from Nice to Monaco? I checked room rates in Monaco--to much!!
Also does anyone know about the Princess Grace exhibit
that is happening this year for the anniver. Will it even be open on Sunday??
So now that I have changed the plan--can anyone tell
me the closest train station to Nimes (which I will take the train to Nice) and what the cost would run.
Also, when I go under eurorail it does not show a train
leaving out of Nimes? Help!
I don't know which is closer, or if these are the closest rail stations, but Arles and Avignon are the two major cities closest to Nimes, and both have at least one rail station. I can't imagine you couldn't connect with Nice from either. I'm sure there would be bus connections to either from Nimes. Good luck!
I just checked the French train website again. Trains from Nimes go to Avignon and then to Nice and from there on to Monaco.
