day trip from Prague

My husband's family is from Blatna and Uzenice. We are planning a family trip to Prague this comng summer and we wanting to take a day trip to Blatna and Uzenice. I am having trouble finding information regarding a bus or train transport. I realize that we can rent a private bus but that would be expensive and we would feel rushed. Thanks.

Hi Judy, For Czech Republic, train and bus information can be found at: www.idos.cz The English option is on the right side, about halfway down the page. A cursory look shows it looks like your best option is by bus, as there are direct connections to Blatna and it's also a short bus ride on to Uzenice. The bus company name is listed by the 'i' in a gray circle under the Overall Time line in the schedule, so you can Google the company for more specific information (although their sites may only be in Czech). Hope that helps!

Here is the link for the trains and busses in CR: http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/?lng=E You may need to play with the site a few timesuntil you know how to use it. There are trains Blatna (leaves from Praha hl.n) and it appears a bus to Uzenice. For practive use a date a week from now and the time 08:00. Click on "Connection Details" which will show all the stops Link to Rail Map: http://www.cd.cz/mapa/

I looked at your options. By train you can get to Blatna with at least one or more train changes. That one would be in Breznice. Price one way 169 Kc (czech crown) per person. It seems to me that better option is bus which goes direct from Prague bus station Na Knizeci (metro station Andel). Bus leaves at 8:20 and arrives to Blatna 10:03. Bus will be signed Vimperk (its terminal station). Cost 100 Kc one way per person (to get approximate price in dollars divide by 20). Bus goes only on workdays. Back to Prague from Blatna at 18:00 arriving in Prague at 19:35. Problem is that there is no good public transport connection from Blatna to Uzenice. But it is only 11 km one way. So either get a taxi (I estimate 300 to 400 Kc) or try to rent bicycles ( if it is possible, get information at the visitor center in Blatna). Blatna is a nice town in picturesque countryside with many manmade lakes. It even has a castle on the island in the lake. Consider staying overnight in Pension Slunce in Blatna to give yourself less rush. Or you can use Taxi & Transfers Prague by HFS. We used their services and were very satisfied. Their website: http://www.taxi-transfers.cz I checked it and unfortunately there is a mistake on their site which quotes distance between Prague and Blatna as 395 km when in reality it's only 95 km. So I would disregard their quoted price 395 Euro, I checked other town of distance 100 km and price is 100 Euro plus 16 Euro per hour for waiting. Depending on how many of you are, price does not look bad considering that they come for you. To get details you can email them:

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. We will have around 30 of us so I don't expect a taxi will be the best option to Uzenice. i will study the bus and train schedules more carefully. Again, thanks for the advice!
