I'm trying to decode the German terminology on my D Bahn seat reservation. My guesses so far: 1 sitzplatz = 1 seat ; Wg. xx = wagen (rail car#) xx ; Pl. xx = platz (seat#) xx ; 1 gang = aisle seat, or maybe aisle #1 ; pretty sure nichtraucher = non-smoking ; no guesses for grossraum and ruhebereich. Does anyone know if the guesses are accurate, or what the other words mean? Thanks for any help.
Grossraum is the large open rail car with seats (as compared to the smaller compartment cars).
Ruhebereich means 'quiet area'.
"1 Gang"
I think that means one seat on the aisle.
Gang comes from the verb "gehen" which means to go, and could be translated as "aisle" or "corridor", also as "course". A "Fußgangerzone" is a pedestrian zone; "Ausgang" is exit; a three course meal is 3-Gang.
My reservation from last year said "1 Fenster" (one window seat).
My reservation last year was for Wg. 10, Pl. 35, 1 Fenster. But I didn't get to use the reservation. My connecting regional train was late so they put me on the next train (ICE) without a reservation, but the train was half empty, so I had no trouble finding a seat.
