We are scheduled to fly 4/20 from Palm Springs on United to Denver. Then Lufthansa takes us to Frankfurt. An hour later we leave Frankfurt for Amsterdam on Lufthansa. I assume we will go through customs in Amsterdam??? Of course, I am praying that there will be planes flying!!!
The immigration passport check will be in Frankfurt. You will also have go through another security screening in Frankfurt. Customs (the stuff you're bringing into the country) will be at Schipohl Amsterdam.
Assuming you get there - you will go through passport control in Frankfurt. If you check your luggage through, you will go through customs in Amsterdam, but customs in Europe is nothing - you walk through the green, nothing to declare, line and you're done.
An hour in Frankfurt for a connection would make me uncomfortable. But being on the same airline helps.
Thank you for the quick replies. At least I know what to expect.
However, I did make an mistake and we have a 5 hour layover at Frankfurt.
I'm glad your layover is more than an hour! FRA is a big airport and waiting in the passport and security lines can take some time. I will say, though, that they were very helpful in moving us to a faster security line when we had a tight connection.
5 hours might actually give you some time to go into Frankfurt. It's an easy train ride from the airport into town. At the very least, you can go into town and walk around for an hour, get some fresh air and fight the jet lag.
