My wife and I are about to book a trip to the UK for next March. We'd be flying in on British Airlines from Chicago to London, then catching a flight up to Edinburgh. We are not checking luggage so we won't have to pick that up. We'll be coming in on a Wednesday. The flights I'm looking at have about 2 hrs, 40 min for a layover in London. Is that enough time to get through Customs? Should I be looking for something longer? Thanks much in advance!
Assuming both flights are with BA, and you'll be entering and leaving Heathrow via terminal 5, you should have enough time. Be advised that in addition to the Immigration check, you'll also have to go through a complete security screening. http://tinyurl.com/2c8yuux
Great. We found a flight with almost a 3 hour layover so I think we should be safe, so long as it departs on time. Thanks!
Yeah, you should be fine. Sometimes there are general delays at Heathrow due to the volume of flights, but 2h40m shouldn't be a problem.
Just an aside - customs is not a problem, you just walk through the green "Nothing to declare" line. Any hold up would be at immigration (or baggage claim, but not an issue with carry-on only).
