My family of four will be flying MSP to LHR in July of 2024. Of course, depending on where you look, the prices for the same flight can be $200-300 different. However, as of today, I’ve found a fare for $1214.65 per person. Is this something I should jump at or will things likely drop more into October and November? (I figure I should have things booked by the end of the year regardless). I used to fly internationally quite a lot, but this will be the first time since ‘08, so fare tracking has changed a lot since then. Thanks so much for your input!
Airline fares are high both domestic and international. $1200 sounds pretty good. Keep in mind that July is a peak time so, IMO, it is unlikely that the fare will decrease much. Might be a different story if it was a Sep or Oct trip. Fares were hard to predict in the past and who knows what it will be like over the next year or so.
I often see sales for off season flights, but I don’t recall seeing any in the last few years for July flights.
Are you booking on Delta? Just asking because if there is a price drop you can contact their customer service, get rebooked and have the fare difference banked in your SkyMiles account for future flights.
I live in MN, and we have flown out of MSP to Europe numerous times. For the summer months, post covid, that fare is what you're going to get. FWIW, I was looking at flying from MSP to Munich, round trip, in July, and the fare is around $1800. I'm not biting on that one! We have 3 other airports we can fly out of, so we're watching prices through those. With MSP and with Delta, in particular, I have found their prices only to go up as time goes on. Yes, they have some good deals sometimes, but they are almost always for off-season travel.
When i was looking for fare from Seattle to Dublin for Aug 2024. I had a price in mind around 1200. I started tracking the fare, particularly Aerlingus and Iceland air a couple of months ago. I was quite surprised at the price. Bought a fare from Iceland air on Sep 4 at $658, way cheaper than last time i flew to Frankfurt in 2019.
I think a sale is possible for peak season, may be for certain destinations?
Holly, I was thinking Iceland Air was going to be the way I’d go as well! They were tracking at $1500 a ticket; less than the Delta non-stop. It surprised me.
One of the benefits of icelandAir is the ability to do an extended stop over in Iceland if you're so inclined. Anywhere from 1 to 7 days -- https://www.icelandair.com/flights/stopover/
I just booked tickets on Delta. A few days later Icelandair announced their sale, which was significantly less. I canceled the Delta tickets and took the e-credit, and booked with Icelandair and included a stopover since I cannot get enough of Iceland, lol. The Icelandair tickets were $550 and Delta was $1300 each, so a no brainer. I am now in the same boat trying to decide when to book using the e-credit. Also need to figure out just where we want to go, but know we need to make the most of the credit.
The Olympics are in Paris in July 2024. It’s an easy train trip from London to Paris. I would bet airfares to London around the Olympics will be more expensive than normal. If I was going in July, I would not wait too long
