No crying baby but crying cat in crate disturbed many passengers. When I boarded, I saw a man and a woman with a cat in a crate and thought little of it, however, I was awakened during the red eye by intense screeching, crying of the cat! I was able to fall back asleep as I was far enough away but could only imagine what it was like for those seated nearer the cat. When the breakfast cart started coming down my aisle, I headed over to the restroom away from the cart but close to the cat. I was first in line but waited over five minutes when passengers near me started ringing for the flight attendant. When she came, they gestured angrily at the restroom saying it had been occupied for over 15 minutes. She knocked and knocked and knocked when finally I heard the lock slide over. The man and the cat in the crate came out!! Dagger looks from those passengers were sent in his direction. I had to wonder just what had gone on in that restroom with the guy and the cat for over 15 minutes!
He probably just took the cat out of the crate to give it a break. Perhaps he should have had a sedative for the cat…or the other passengers!
Hopefully 'Fluffy' got put on the 'no fly list', to preclude a repeat.
Perhaps the flight time exceeded the cats 'intestinal fortitude' and he was doing clean up to the crate?
Joe, I had the same thought. Ew.
If I had to go in right after the man and the cat in the crate, I would have probably aborted that mission.
Estimated Prophet, I had the same thought, but poked my head in and it was pristine!
The people directly across the aisle from us on our last red eye from MSP to AMS had 2 cats in crates. I didn't even notice until at least 5 hours in when I heard a meow. The sedatives were wearing off and one of the cats almost clawed its way out of the crate. The owners, a young couple, were moving to Europe. The cats were probably scared and the owners were apologetic. While I'm not a cat lover, I felt so bad for all of them.
We had a screaming toddler on our flight to Amsterdam on Friday that was clearly not used to being told he wasn't the boss. He had tantrums all. flight. long. and the flight attendants actually restrained him in preparation for landing. While we were getting off the plane we noticed a dog in a backpack also getting off. Never heard peep from him. As soon as his humans were off the plane, he was taken out of the backpack and was so happy to walk. The toddler....still angry at the world.
*I'm curious what kind of plane you were on from JFK to CDG? we were on a 787 and there were at least 6 washrooms within a short distance of my seat. I have no idea how many more further to the front. Short lines and minimal waiting for my two breaks.
I adore my noise-canceling headphones.
tripletblessings, my thoughts exactly. Even better, for minimalist packers including me, I now have noise cancelling earbuds that work almost as well (Symphonized wired earbuds, $34.95 on Amazon,) and are tiny. I used to struggle wearing over-the-ear noise cancellers because I feared missing the flight attendant with my meal, water, etc. These are easy to wear one in, one out when needed.
