I am looking for a day cruise from Oberwesel down the Rhine. I want to get off at the stop closest to Schaladenbad, Germany. Can you suggest a company and the stop I should get off at and the best route from the stop to Schladenbad?
I thought I was pretty familiar with Germany, but I had never heard of Schaladenbad, or Schlandenbad. Oh well, maybe a small town, so I ran it through Meinestadt.de. Not recognized. Maybe you can check the spelling or give us a clue.
Here is the hotel as listed on the web:
parkhotel schlangenbad. It is close to Wiesban
Yes, there is a Schlangenbad. However, it is UP the Rhein from Oberwesel (the Rhein flows down from Oberwesel to Koblenz. From Maps.google, it looks like Schlangenbad is fairly close to Wiesbaden. The K-D boats don't go UP the Rhein past Mainz, which is across the river from Wiesbaden. That is a pretty uninteresting part of the Rhein. I wouldn't suggest a cruise.
The K-D boats do stop in Eltville. Schlangenbad is 14 km inland from there.
Thanks, that is great info. We will get off at Eltville and try to find a bus from there to the hotel.
There are other lines than KD (smaller boats). Unfortunately, I've only ridden on KD and can't tell you anything about the others.
There is a bus (#173) between the Eltville Bahnhof, which appears to be within walking distance of the K-D dock, and about 12 stops in Schlangenbad. The bus leaves approximately hourly (at 41-46 min after the hour) and takes about a half hour. You can find the schedule at www.rmv.de. Put in "Eltville (Rhein) Bahnhof" and "Schlangenbad Landgrafenplatz".
Thank you so much for your help.
The German Rail website recommends to walk 8 min to the Matheus-Müller-Platz in Eltville and then take the #171 bus 6 minutes to the Eltville Bahnhof where you can get the 173 bus to Schlangenbad. Tell the driver you want to go to "Schlangenbad"; the fare, with transfer, should be €2 pP.
Also per the German Rail website, Parkhotel Schlangenbad is about 1/8 mi (3 minutes) from Landgrafenplatz.
