Crossing English Channel

Is Eurostar the only way? I'm a first time traveler, so I won't try the boat method.
Man it's only a few hours of train ride, and the cheapest one I've found was about 70 bucks! Well, the price is about the same in U.S., but still. Anybody found cheaper way to cross English Channel? I don't care if it's from France or Belgium, as long as it's cheap :P

Thanks in advance!

The cheapest (and slowest) is a Eurolines coach (highway bus). Be aware, however, that at certain times of the day the coach crosses the channel on a ferry and at other times of the day it crosses through the Eurotunnel.

You could choose to fly on a budget airline. EasyJet flies Paris CDG-London Luton. While hardly a budget airline, British Airways offers low fares for CDG-Heathrow.

You can fly Brussels-London City on VLM and Brussels-Heathrow on BMI. These also are budget airlines.

Billy,
If you do take EasyJet, just keep in mind that Luton airport is not in the heart of London. Easyjet does have Easybus.com, which will take you from London proper to Luton for cheap.

My first time to Paris, we took EasyJet.
Last year we splurged and took the Eurostar and I preferred the train. The ride was very relaxing, and plenty of room to spread out.

If you book ahead of time, the Eurostar has price breaks.

Taking the ferry from Dover to Calais is an interesting experience and makes you feel connected to history, if that interests you. I don't think it is expensive for a foot passenger. Flying---well, you can do that anywhere.
