Hi all, I am looking for the best (cheapest and most convenient) way to travel from Croatia to Switzerland on August 12th. From my research, I think that the cheapest method would be on plane (Turkish Airlines), which is $288 for a 5 hr flight from Zagreb to Geneva. I've found it difficult to research train options. I would prefer to travel from Croatia straight to the Interlaken region, rather than going to Geneva, but I thought that going through Geneva would be most economical since it is a major city. Is traveling straight to the Interlaken region from Croatia possible? Thanks for any suggestions, in advance!
I have never been to Croatia or Switzerland. So, how can I help you? Well, if I had to make this trip, I'd look for train info at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. You can't use this site to buy tickets on this route, but it is easy to find all schedules. For flight schedules, I'd look at http://www.skyscanner.com/ Geneva is not on the way to Interlaken. Swiss airports include Geneva, Basel, Zurich, and Bern. Bern is closest to Interlaken, and Zurich is second-closest. On that subject, Croatia has multiple airports too, including Split and Dubrovnik. If you're flying, consider the option of buying a round trip ticket and just discarding the return portion; sometimes this is much cheaper. In general, connections from Croatia seem to be fewer and more complicated than people seem to expect (I've seen this problem come up repeatedly online). Like Greece, it seems to be "so close" to us in the US, but it is not easy to get there from other parts of Europe.
http://www.europebyair.com has information of just about all of the low cost carriers in Europe. There you can find non-stops to Zurich from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik for as low as $99 depending on dates.
Thank you so much for your replies, Harold and Jeff! I'll look now.
