Crazy private driver question-UK

I don't know why I think about things like this but here's the question:

When you hire a private driver (for example from Moreton in Marsh to Hidcote Gardens), is the protocol (like a taxi) where both customers sit in the back seat or does one person sits next to the driver? Or is there even a norm?

Either way, there's no particular protocol just whateveryou feel comfortable with. Some people like to sit up front next to the driver as conversation is easier to conduct whereas others prefer to sit in the back. Taxi's in the UK (minicabs rather than black cabs) frequently have passengers up front or in the back, it's a personal preference.

I have taken many private cars, taxis, and Uber. Typically if there are only two of us, we sit in the back. If there are three of us, one of us will sit up front rather than squeeze in the back.

When it is just me, I have been known to ask if it’s ok to sit in the front seat. I want to respect a driver’s space and choice - but I love scenery and you can see so much better from the front.
