Why would a retired, single person even have 2 phone numbers? I wonder if they would accept one of the emergency numbers I use
such as my sister, my daughter, my neighbor (we have the same street address.)

I have one phone number. No way I am going to obtain a second one to satisfy this proposal. I will just stay home...

I don't work for Gary, just reporting the news.

I bet every Dunkin Donuts has a telephone (just saying).

From the article "Airlines would be allowed to keep the information for their own purposes. And they would be permitted, and in some cases required, to share it with foreign governments as well."

New fundraiser for Border Services? Selling our info not only to the airlines but to foreign governments. China will get in line and buy a piece of that action.

Never gonna pass and the two phone numbers will be ditched as no one under 40 has a landline.

I think alternate phone number doesn't have to be a phone number you own; it can be phone number of someone you know (other family member or friend) who can inform you or is in touch with you.

When you just read a sensationalistic story, you don't get the full information. I read a good chunk of the Federal Register.

While much of what was said was true, CPB also stated that for US citizens, much of the extra information can be obtained through other sources. Like your passport.

Additionally, U.S. citizens cannot be denied entry into the U.S. If CPB starts requiring two phone numbers, they will be taken to court over this.

And what about those who paid extra for Global Entry and Nexus and had extra background checks done?

What will probably happen is these extra rules may be put into place for non-US citizens visiting the U.S. That is until if affects tourism and the tourism industry starts to complain.

You sure this isn't a leftover April Fool gag by the phone companies to drum up business.???

Hey, if they want me to have two phone numbers, they can gift me with a second phone (plus service) free of charge. I'll take it.

I'm retired and I have three phone numbers personally - it was four when I was working. It isn't that hard in this day and age... And does VOIP count as a land line?

Kathy, the key word here is "proposed" which means it may be coming sooner rather than later
