cpap machine counts as only carry-on with Air France

A woman at Air France just explained to me that my cpap machine will count as my only carry-on. A personal item is not allowed. I plan to put it in a bigger carry-on bag with my computer and a few clothes, but you can see the problem. Does anyone know if security would object to the wearing of a rather stuffed cargo vest - as long as the items are appropriate for carry-on, of course.

Thanks in advance,

Betty

From U.S to Europe or vice versa?

Security here (TSA) will not count the CPAP. Odds are gate people won't pay attention. Also, AF flight might actually be a Delta plane in which case, they won't care.

On return trip, just add extra packing material and stick it in baggage.

But first, email them to see if what you were told is correct. If you get a different answer, carry the email with you and nicely explain to gate agent if they won't allow it that you thought it was ok as their representative told you lifesaving medical equipment didn't count towards your limit. If email fails to get a good answer, nicely write to HQ that you really want to fly their wonderful airline but ...

I love John's answers.........double check with them.

I usually carry my CPAP and a backpack as carry ons, and have never had a problem; but I don't fly Air France.

You may have to resort to a larger carry on, with your CPAP inside.

Don't forget, when you get to the gate TSA now wants you to remove your CPAP from whatever bag it is in, so that they can do a seperate check of your CPAP (they run it thru a machine looking for "explosives")
This only occurs in the US.
