COVID-19 Iceland Air/Wizz Air/ESKY dilemma.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post. I'm looking for some travel advise in relation to airlines.
I recently had a trip that was coming up. Going over on Singapore air to Germany,
Taking Wizz air from Budapest to Iceland
And Iceland Air from Iceland to JFK.

Due to the Covid-19 situation in the U.S. non essential travel is banned as well as in the U.K. Borders are shut for Hungary and my flight to Germany canceled on me making travel to all these places impossible.
I'm trying to get a return on my tickets from my Wizz Air ticket that I purchased through esky and my ticket from Iceland air though both airlines are trying to tell me that its only if they cancel the flight the day of that any refund is possible.
However, my flight over canceled on me, I got let go this week and while its not the airlines fault in any regard my question would be:

has anyone had success getting refunds from any of these airline companies? If so how?
Any advise is appreciated.

I hope you all are staying well in this trying time and may we all go adventuring again soon!

Because of the virus, most airlines are willing to let you change your flight or rebook. If you don't know when you want to go, they will give you a voucher for the amount you paid that must be used within 12 months of your original initial fight.

Only if the airline cancels the flight itself will you see a refund.
