Costs/connections down the cost Nice to Barcelona

Hello,

Might someone know what the prices and connections that need to be made from Nice to Barcelona? Would it be better to take a bus or train? And, might it be better to have several home base areas or to just stay in the place that we travel to? For instance, we might see Monaco with Nice being home base, but then travel to Cannes and start staying at every next location that we travel to.

This is a honeymoon trip on a budget. We will start in Nice on the 22July 8am and leave from Barcelona on the 2 Aug, 8pm.

Here's the rough plan with a day in each:
Nice(2days)-Monaco-Cannes-St Tropez-Aix en Provence-Marseille-Avignon-Montpellier-Barcelona(2days)

Are there better places to see than these?

Thanks a lot!

Allen, you could use Nice as your Riviera base and take little day trips by train or bus (bus is only 1 euro!) to Monaco, Cannes & St. Tropez. I think it would be more pleasant to be in the same hotel for the 5 days you have planned for the Riviera, and really, the other 3 towns are not far away.

Is there a particular reason for 2 days in Marseilles? My suggestion would be to drop Marseilles, and add one day each to Aix and Barcelona.

We stayed in Entrevaux (1 hr. north of Nice) and took a local train which goes all the way north to Des Baines (sp?) and all the way south to Nice. I would highly recommend as you can see the French Alps in one day. I believe you can stop and check out some of the small towns along the way.
Also, highly recommend for a drink (since you are on a budget) at the Martinez Hotel in Cannes.

Thanks for the response.

Please tell me which bus is 1 euro :
Nice-Monaco,
Nice to Cannes,
Nice - St tropez

Or even which bus is best...

I was just thinking of one day in Marseille.

I have not booked the hotels yet, so maybe 5 nights in Nice would be better.
