What is the fastest way to get from Cortona to Positano? We are going in September, and don't want to spend all day travelling. And does anyone know how long the trip would take by train?
Travelers agree that the train is as fast as air on a trip that short. Counting time to and from the airport, air travel is time consuming. Trains always leave and arrive in the center of town.
Your question will be whether the RR goes to those two towns.
The fastest way is to rent a car and drive. Via Michelin website estimates the driving time from Cortona to Positano at 4:44. Best public transportation option would be train and bus combination, but that takes much longer. Train from Cortona to Naples via Rome is 4:07 to 5:21 depending on the train times chosen. Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento is a little over an hour, with another hour for bus from Sorrento to Positano. Best case using public transportation (and adding in some connection time in Naples and Sorrento) would be over 7 hours and probably more like 8 hours.
Thank you so much-that was so helpful. We were not planning to rent a car as we thought it would be expensive, and inconvenient in the small hill towns, but possily we could rent near Cortona and drop it off in Positano?Do you know if this is something they do over there?
Thanks again,Bobbie
One-way rentals are possible in Italy. Might ask your hotel in Cortona which rental car companies have offices nearby and then check to see if they also have a location in or near Positano.
I couldn't imagine that there is a car rental agency in Positano or Cortona. I checked on Autoeurope. If think your best bet would be to pick up in Arrezzo or Perugia and then drop in Sorrento. So the additional travel time to get to and from those cities makes the train look better. You'll still have to deal with the SITA bus, though.
Thank you so much-this is really helpful, and saved us so much time,we appreciate your help :)
