Continued delays at BRU - check your flights

Just an FYI if you have flights in/out of BRU, my company's EU travel agent just sent out the following notice regarding flights:

MANY FLIGHTS are still cancelled and we have to REBOOK ALL TRAVELERS by using LILLE / ANTWERPEN / AMSTERDAM or DÜSSELDORF as ALTERNATIVE AIRPORT .
BRUSSELS AIRPORT will NOT be able to handle ALL THE FLIGHTS BEFORE SUMMER .

I have a flight an America airline flight to BRU in two weeks and just checked their website which states:

Situation in Brussels (for travel scheduled March 30 - April 22, 2016)

This information is current as of April 1, 2016
Airport affected:

  • Brussels, Belgium (BRU)

A one-time ticketing fee will be waived for travel changes if you:

  • Are traveling on an American Airlines, British Airways or Iberia flight.

  • Bought your original flight before March 29, 2016.

  • Are scheduled to travel March 30 - April 22, 2016, to/through/from the affected airport.

  • Choose to travel April 24, 2016 through the expiration date of your ticket.

  • Book the same class of service (or you can pay the difference in fare).

Origin, destination and stopover changes are also allowed for:

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS)

  • Paris Charles De Gaulle, France (CDG)

  • Dusseldorf, Germany (DUS)

  • Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)

  • Liege Bierset, Belgium (LGG)

  • London Heathrow, United Kingdom (LHR)

  • London Gatwick, United Kingdom (LGW)

  • Paris Orly, France (ORY)

  • Rotterdam, Netherlands (RTM)

Please call to change your ticket.

It looks like American Airlines at least is NOT automatically rebooking people, you need to call and do it manually since there are so many options to choose from.

Hope this helps.

Delta has basically something similar but their window for the affected flights is 4/30/16 so a little farther out than AA. I also think it only affects changes for flights to and from BRU not the other destinations allowed by AA. They have also cancelled the ATL-BRU route until next summer so if you are on that one call now!

Spoke with AA today and the PHL-BRU route is unofficially cancelled through June 14th but they are only cancelling passenger tickets who are traveling on or before Apr 15th (one week from today) in the hopes that the airport reopens sooner. So if you have a ticket and you didn't receive a cancellation notice it could be because the airline is hoping the situation changes and will only cancel your ticket when you get to a week before departure.
