Continental Airlines: Comfort of Overseas Flight

I have only flown BA overseas; does Continental have smaller aircrafts? I'm trying to figure out how bad this 14 hour flight will be :)

It's pretty comfortable. I flew Continental both ways this year. They have typical seats but they all have individual video screens and the food is better than you usually get in coach.

Haven't done Continental, but I didn't like the looks of it because of the three and three seat configurations. Take a look at www.seatguru.com and it will provide you a glimpse.

Continental now flies Boeing 757's out of Newark on a ton of routes to Europe. This is a 3-3 cabin layout - which to some people can seem cramped for a long flight over the Atlantic, but the truth is the seat pitch and width are the same as any other carrier's economy class.

A 757 can't make it 14 hours in flight so you must be on either a 767 or 777, which will both have multiple isles and TV's at each seat. Hope this helps.

If you are on a 777 you are on a big plane. However, 14 hours in coach is miserable no matter how you slice it. I hope you have a good, professional (happy?) flight crew, it helps a bit.

Go to SeatGuru http://www.seatguru.com/index.php. Pick Continental Airlines and the aircraft you're going to fly on. It will tell you the good/bad/ugly about each seat. If you have the choice to pick your seats, this will help you do it.

We are flying to Rome from Houston in June on Continental. When you book your reservations online you can choose your seats. We have a plane change in Newark then fly from there to Rome. The seat configuation on that flight is 2 - 5 - 2. From Houston to Newark, however, is 3-3. Just to be sure I called Continental (and talked to a real person, twice!!) who confirmed that the overseas flight is 2-5-2. You might want to check it out.

I used to think I loved flying. I discovered I love traveling and flying is just the best way to get there.

I've flown on a variety of airlines. Compared to the Pilgrims on the Mayflower, 14 hours in economy class is heaven. For me, the only good way to fly transatlantic is asleep.

Check out the different strings on this site about getting sleep on your flight.

I believe that the 777 has 3-3-3 seats and the 767 has 2-3-2.

Andrea, I flew Continental from Sacramento - Frankfurt (2 plane changes) and from London - Sacramento (1 change) and found the flights to be quite comfortable. Enjoy your trip.

I couldn't agree more with James! 14 hours in Coach IS miserable no matter how you slice it!! And yes, absolutely, a professional and HAPPY Crew do make a difference!

Just bear in mind that Passengers can add to our happiness by treating us with common courtesy and respect.

Let's face it, Airlines can offer similar features and services but it's the Crew that either makes or breaks your InFlight experience. We all have rough days and yes sometimes we do bring our problems to work. Anyone who says that they do not is not being real. God Bless the wonderful Passengers who can see beyond themselves and offer some appreciation or a kind word. Your co-operation goes a long way toward a better Inflight experience for everyone. Afterall, we're all stuck in the same long, skinny metal tube we call an airplane together for the next several hours...
As for the question about Contenental...Check out their website. It will probably answer most of your questions and then some...

We're on Continental both ways and on smaller planes than we've been on before for international. We're on a 777-200ER on the way over from Newark. It's 3, 3, 3 and I believe this one has individual movie screens on the seats (still trying to confirm this). We're on frequent flier tickets, so we're in the very last row which is 2, 3, 2; and we're hoping it's not awful. On the way home we're on a 757-200 which is just a 3, 3 smaller plane and I believe this one doesn't have the individual movie screens. You can find plane layouts on the Continental site as mentioned. Just remember the time difference...it's not truly a 14 hour flight.

"Compared to the Pilgrims on the Mayflower, 14 hours in economy class is heaven."

Attitude is everything. I love this.

IMHO there's not a huge difference between any of them... it's still a long time in a metal tube but I perfer this to the long time on the Mayflower!

Greetings

777s by definition have individual movie screens. Continental's 757s don't, except in business first. A good tip on the 757 is to try and sit in the exit row (if you are eligible). In one row you have extra footroom, but no recline. However, the second row has both extra legroom and recline - very comfy!
