I thought I read that contact solution could be carried on in larger size then 3 oz.I cant find the answer on TSA.gov.
It's considered a medical exception, but, like most things passing through TSA, it's subject to the discretion of the agent. I get around the issue by taking the teeny 2 oz bottles that I get from my eye care provider in the starter kits.
Jack - from the TSA website:
"Additionally, we are continuing to permit prescription liquid medications and other liquids needed by persons with disabilities and medical conditions. This includes:
* All prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes...
However, if the liquid medications are in volumes larger than 3 ozs each, they may not be placed in the quart-size bag and must be declared to the Transportation Security Officer."
I put my regular liquids (shampoo, etc.) in their small containers in one quart ziploc bag. I put my 5 oz tube of Rx creme along with all my contact stuff in a separate ziploc bag and take both out of my carryon when it is time to go through security.
I always take a 4 oz bottle of solution with no problems. I put it in the bag with my medicines.
Just got back from Italy from Chicago, and though I took multiple 2 oz bottles I got from my contact lens retailer, I didn't declare them or even place all of them in the ziploc back. The screeners didn't seem to even notice.
Jack, do you use soft lenses?? Target has the Renu brand that is 3 oz, and they also have the "Boston" brand for hard lenses also under 3 oz.
I use Opti-free 4 oz bottles which advertise on the bottle as being TSA compliant. I've never had problems in Asia, the US, or London.
