Connections in the Madrid Atocha train station

Is 28 minutes enough time to make a connection in the Madrid train station? Thanks!

Is this AVE train to AVE train, or something different?

Yes, though it may be cutting it tight. You'll need to find your platform and walk there, which if you've never been in Atocha may take 5-10 minutes. AVE trains require going through a security screening, but that is minimal and not nearly as thorough as airports. Assume 10 minutes. They stop boarding about 5 minutes prior to departure. So that leaves you an extra 5-10 minutes.

Will be close....the trains are on time, not one minute late on departure....would want more time myself as you will need to get up to the departure exit and then find the gate and get back down to the next track...
