Connection times at Newark

I'm looking at 2 flights from Manchester, UK to St. Louis with a connection in Newark. One itinerary gives me a 2.5-hour layover. The other has a 5.5-hour layover. I'd rather not wait in the airport for 5 hours. For those of you who've connected through Newark, would you be comfortable with 2.5 hours?

If both flights are Untied and both are using terminal C, 2.5 hours is enough time. But some United commuter flights use terminal A, so you will need extra time for that. If it were me I would book the 2.5 hour connection; worst case scenario if you don't make the original connection they will simply put you on the later flight.

Michael, yes, both tickets are United all the way. I was thinking the same thing; there's at least one later flight that day. If I miss my connection, I should be able to get on a later flight.

I agree with Michael's advice, and your plan to book the 2.5 hour connection.

Good to know, thanks. Looking at United flights from Chicago to Venice with connection in Newark and was thinking of choosing the 4 hour layover instead of 2 hours just to be safe. Don't want to take a chance on missing flight to Venice.
