Connection time between FCO/Rome to Boston

Hello, is 2 hours enough connection time coming from Venice to Rome and onto Boston? Flying Alitalia 12:10pm flight from Venice and 2 hour layover in Rome before heading home to Boston. Will we need to go through customs in Venice or Rome with our carry on luggage and how long do you think it will take? What happens if we miss our flight to Boston if we get held up at customs? Any advice or experience would be helpful. Thanks everyone.

More than enough time. Alitalia will take care of your needs even in the unlikely event of a delay that makes you miss the flight.

In the unlikely event of a delay that makes you miss your flight to BOS, since you are on a one ticket flight with Alitalia, Alitalia will take care of it and either reroute you to a later flight (probably through JFK, which has a few daily flights) or rebook you on the next day and provide hotel accommodations for you in Rome.

There is no customs in Venice or Rome. You will go through customs in Boston (US Customs).

There will be however a "passport check" in Rome, since you are exiting the EU at that point, just before you go to the gate for your US bound flight to BOS. You will go through security (metal detectors) again in Rome as well (unless things have changed, but I don't believe so).
