We have seen several postings that talk about train travel from Brussels to Bruges, but not from Bruges to Brussels. We will be spending 4 nights in Bruges following a Rick Steves England tour. Our flight from Brussels back home to the US leaves at 10:00 AM on a Thursday. Would you recommend that we take a train to the airport in the very early AM so that we would get there in time to board, or would you recommend that we spend a night in Brussels. And, if you recommend a night's stay in Brussels, what hotel would you suggest. Thanks for thoughts.

You'll be fine taking early morning trains (Bruges to Brussels and Brussels to the airport). The first train departs Bruges at 04:10. There are at least two trains/per hour. If you want to be at the airport three hours before your flight departs, you can leave Bruges at 05:35, connect at Bruxelles-Midi, and arrive at the airport at 07:09.
