Connection time at Toronto Pearson to FCO

We purchased our tickets through United. We are flying on Air Canada EWR-Toronto-FCO-Palermo.
Our flight arrives in Toronto at 7:35. Our flight to FCO is at 9:10
Pm which gives us 1:35 to make our flight to Rome. Travel is on one ticket.
What can we expect in Toronto. Do we need to go through passport control and security again?
Do we have enough time? Will they hold flight for us in Toronto? I’m assuming Air Canada thinks this is enough time.

Here's a link to Toronto Pearson's connecting guide...

Enter your info, and it will give you an idea of what you'll have to do. The last time I connected outbound there, US-Canada-Europe, was in October, and there was just a quick passport scan at a a kiosk that spit out some small document that said I was ok, showed that to a live person, and I was on my way to the international terminal. It was all very quick. Of course, that was a different procedure than had been in place the previous February, so the above could have also changed in the meantime.

Assuming inbound flight is on time, you will have enough time. No, they won't hold the plane for you. And, yes, Air Canada thinks it's enough time. their Minimum Connection Time, US to International, at Toronto is 1 hour.

camille, we just did this in October - short connection in Toronto on Air Canada connecting to flight to AMS. Our connecting time was scheduled I think at exactly 60 minutes. We asked at check-in - they assured us it was doable. Yes we had to go through a pretty quick passport control check (since we had entered a foreign country). But it was set up within the terminal gate area (secured airside) so as to funnel transiting passengers through rapidly. We hustled our way to the departure gate and got there in time, but the AMS flight was delayed one hour anyway. My suggestion would be to keep checking your arrival gate and departure gate information so you know you're heading in the right direction. Our flights were within the same terminal area: YMMV. Good luck.

Shouldn't be a problem as Stan and Eric pointed out. It will take longer to go from your arrival gate to your new departure gate then to scan your passport at the kiosk and show it to the attendant. We went for IAH to Dubai last November through Toronto, not a problem since you are transiting.

I have flown through Toronto like this several times.Like everyone else has said, it will not be a problem. YYZ is a very efficient airport. It is easy to navigate. Passport control is straight forward.

If you return on the same route, passing through Pearson going home, you will go through US immigration procedures in Toronto. Just be sure to enter the correct line -- not the sector for those staying in Canada.
