Connection time at Newark,NJ airport for international flight

We have reserved a flight from Burlington, VT to Heathrow on United for the spring. The schedule they gave us gives us only an hour and half in Newark to change planes to the international flight. United agent assured us that was OK, but I worry about it. Since the entire trip is on United, is this OK? Usually you have to arrive at least 2 hours before the flight (and of course we WILL be checking in at Burlington more than 2 hours before the flight from Newark to LHR). But, I don't want to be worried! Julia

It shouldn't be a problem. United uses terminal C for all it's flights at Newark. The gates for domestic flights and international flights are all mixed together so it's not inconceivable that your flight to Heathrow is just a few gates away from your arrival gate. You won't have to go through security at Newark.

I think it depends on who is actually operating the flight. It looks like there is a United flight after 5 PM that does leave from Terminal C. However, there is another codeshare flight (Lufthansa) at 8 something that is operated out of the international terminal. In 2009, I flew into EWR on United but connected to the Lufthansa flight and had to change terminals with the people mover. I had to go through security to get back in at the international terminal. However, I don't think it took me an hour and a half. The two hour rule is if you are checking in with checked luggage (so they have a chance to get it on the plane). If you are just changing flights, it shouldn't be a problem. However, as usual, know where you are going.

Don't worry Julia. They couldn't book you if it was not what is referred to in the airline industry, as a "legal" connection. You should have plenty
of time.

"...However, there is another codeshare flight (Lufthansa) at 8 something that is operated out of the international terminal..." According to Kyak.com all direct Lufthansa flights from Newark to Heathrow are operated by United out of terminal C. Back in 2009 United and Continental were separate airlines using different terminals. They have since merged, and Newark operates a lot differently these days.
