Our flight from the U.S. arrives in Frankfurt, then we connect on a flight to London on Lufthansa.
Do we go through immigration in Frankfurt, London or both? How about customs? Just typical "nothing to declare" walk through?
Which Heathrow terminal would the Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt arrive at? And what terminal(s) would British Air and Virgin fly out of to Edinburgh?

You can check which terminal Lufthansa and BA use by looking at the Heathrow website. It lists which airlines use which one. Virgin Atlantic uses T3. Unless they pull you aside for closer examination, you just walk through the "nothing to declare" door.
British Airways goes to Edinburgh from T5; Virgin Little Red from T1. Lufthansa arrives in T1.
You would go through customs and immigration at Heathrow; the only thing you may have to do in FRA is a security / ID check. If you are intending to connect to Edinburgh and have your bags checked through to EDI rather than collect them in LHR then they would be custom checked in EDI.
When are you travelling? Heathrow terminal 2 opens next June, so terminals start to change then.
