Connection between Prague and Nurnberg

We're picking up a cruise ship at Nurnberg. What is the best way to get there from Prague? Thanks.

Best way? Best time or best cost? Time wise, use the bus. If you book in advance, you can get Europa-Spezial Tschechien tickets for as low as €19 per person. However, these ticket prices are tiered and when they sell out at the lowest tier, the price goes up. Also, the tickets are only partially refundable through the day before travel, non-refundable after that. If you can commit and get them early enough to get the €19 fare, it's a pretty good deal. However, if the price goes higher, the train costs less. The bus takes about 3h39min non-stop from the Prague main station to Nürnberg. Cost and risk wise, you'll probably want to take the train. There is one direct train per day between Prague and Nürnberg that takes 4h49min, about an hour longer than the bus, and there are two one-change train connections that take 5h15min. You can buy a Czech Rail ticket from Prague to Furth im Wald, the first stop by the train in Germany, for about €10 (255 Kc, I think) and then use a Bayern-Ticket (available on line from the Bahn for €26 for two). So the price on the train will be about €23/person. You dont' have to buy the Czech ticket until just before train time and the Bayern-Ticket is valid all day long (although only valid for the day you indicate when you buy it).

I saw a large cruise ship (river type) on the Danube in Passau with Basel listed as it's home port on the stern. It must have come up the Main-Donau Kanal from the Rhein. I saw another on the Elbe, in Bad Schandau, near Dresden, with the home port of Oberwesel. That one must have gone along the North Sea coast from the Netherlands to the mouth of the Elbe at Cuxhaven.

Thanks for all your advice. We're going to take a bus that's 38euros/per person. It's Deutsche Bahn. We missed the discount. It's a riverboat cruise along the Danube. It will be our first.

Dorothy.
My wife and I took the bus in Nov. 2011. We sat upstairs and had a better view. The bus is easy to find, right in front of the train station. The bus has a snack cart but I would pick up something from the train station to take. It also has a bathroom which my wife was very happy about. Enjoy Prague.

The bus is a double decker and it belongs to Deutsche Bahn. The first class is downstairs and second class upstairs.
