My wife and I are scheduled to arrive at St Pancras Station aboard the EuroStar at 1:30PM, and are scheduled to depart Heathrow on a British Airways flight to Washington at 5:05PM. Assuming that we need to be at Heathrow 2 hours prior to flight time, are we allowing enough time to get from St Pancras to Heathrow?
Yes, you should have plenty of time. You can either take the tube right into Heathrow, or go to I believe Paddington Station and take the Heathrow Express. With the time you have, it is cheaper to take the tube.
Jim, for flights from Europe to N. America most airlines require that you be at the airport 3 hours before flight time, not 2 hours, so you might want to take the Heathrow Express from Paddington.
Jim, I'd suggest that you just go direct by tube. Walk over to the Kings Cross tube station which is connected to St Pancras and take the Piccadilly Line there to Heathrow. It will take about an hour.
In my experience, Heathrow Express won't get you there much faster and will probably be more of a hassle. By the time you take the tube to Paddington, walk from the circle line platform to the rail station, wait for the train, and then take the train, you are talking at least 45 minutes and probably longer if you have to wait at Paddington.
You should definitely do online check-in the day before. Make sure that you know what terminal you are flying out of. Also check tfl.gov.uk before you travel to make sure that there are no engineering works on the tube the day tha you are traveling.
I just talked to British Airways (how I got the phone number is another story) and the reservations agent there told me that I need to be at Terminal 5 by 3:05PM - 2 hours before flight time. This gives me just a hair over 1 1/2 hours to get from St Pancras Station to Terminal 5 at Heathrow. From the helpful hints I've received, it looks workable. Many thanks to all that responded.
With an 1 1/2 hours, take the tube. It's easier. More than likely, you'll get to Heathrow before 3:00.
