Connecting Flight in Madrid Spain

I'm trying to book our flight to Rome and most of the flight schedules have a connecting flight in Madrid Spain. Our flight lands in Madrid at 7:40 and the connecting flight to Rome departs at 8:55. Do you think we will have enough time to make that connecting flight? We have never been to Madrid so we don't know what the airport looks like. We are flying IBERIA. Any comments will be greatly appreciate it. Thank You!!

That is very tight. You will have to go through immigrations. Is there a later flight? If you miss the flight, Iberia will be responsible for getting you on a later flight.

It probably is ok. I think the inbound aircraft will land at T4S (the satellite terminal) and that the Schengen flights will leave from T4. You will need to take a train between the two terminals. Gate to Gate could take you upto 20 mins and you will need to go through passport control. An interesting point - in Dec when I traveled through MAD, American would not let me do a connection that was less than 2 hours. I generally prefer shorter connections and will take my chance. Just do some research for when the next flight is in case you have a delay that causes you to miss the connection.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you arrive at another terminal and your connecting flight is out of T4 you will have to go through another security check before boarding. That can take a while if they're very busy.
