Connecting flight from USA through LHR to Florence

We are traveling from the United States to Florence via LHR. We are on one ticket (not two separate ones) and we will arrive in Terminal 3 and Depart from Terminal 5.

I am confused about the ETA that the UK requires. I have read that if we are connecting to another flight we do not have to have the ETA. Is this correct?

I just want to be sure because I think when we arrive at Terminal 3 we will have to somehow get to Terminal 5 and I am unsure about that as well. We only have 1 hr 50 minutes and I don't want to mess up.

Thank you for your help.

If you are only transiting LHR (i.e. connecting to another non-UK flight) you do not need the ETA. I recently flew through LHR and it was not needed for a connecting flight.

First, you don't need an ETA if you are just connecting to a flight out of the UK.

Next, go to this website, fill in the flight information and it will give you step by step instructions on what to do.

Basically, you follow the purple Flight Connections signs and you will be taken by bus, airside, to Terminal 5. You will have to go through security but no immigration or customs

Just be sure that your liquids are all in a quart sized bag. They are very strict about this and you don’t have too much time to waste in your connection.

We just flew through LHR and did not have the ETA. Also, the security check does not require one to get liquids out of the suitcase now.
There should be a bus taking you between Terminals.
Have a great trip!
