Connecting at Heathrow Terminal 5 Only 1 hr!

Hi All,
We are heading out on our first trip to Europe on Rick's Best of Italy tour in a few weeks. We are flying BA and are currently scheduled to connect at Heathrow's terminal 5 to our BA flight to Milan. We only have 1 hour to connect and I am unable to change the flight times. We will be flying Business Class using our miles and carrying our luggage on. This is the only part of the trip that has me very nervous. Do we have to go through a security line if we are continuing on to Milan on BA? Any advice would be so appreciated!

Cheri - The situation at Terminal 5 is changing quickly since it just had a chaotic opening. I don't know how many people you'll find here with current experience, so I'd recommend posting your question at Tripadvisor which has many more participants. You should specify if you expect to land at Terminal 5 - I'm assuming you're flying from Seattle via BA as well? I think you will have to go through security again when you land, but ask about that at Tripadvisor as well.

Worst case, BA has several flights to Milan each day so being rebooked on a later flight shouldn't be too bad. And, because you're going business class you can hang out in BA's Club World lounges which are great.

An hour even domestically is cutting it close... and Heathrow is very conjested!

I would contact British Air and ask them if its "possible"

Thank you both. I qwill do further checking. I am hoping that since both flights are on BA, that they may hold the plane for us. Who knows, but thought it was worth the uery!

Hi Cheri,

I just came across this note on the General Europe board. Thought it might be of interest, if you haven't heard anything already:

I booked a flight with BA a couple of months ago for a departure in mid-May. Just yesterday I was contacted about Heathrow (or BA, not sure where the orders came from) not allowing transfers with layovers of under 2 hrs because of the difficulties with Terminal 5. Our 1 hr, 55 min. layover just became a five hour one :)

Not too much of a hassle; fortunately we did not plan on doing anything too ambitious that first day in Milan. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck!

The minnimum connect time through LHR on BA right now is 2 hours as stated below. Call BA and get them to bump you back to the next Milan flight (since I'm sure there are several a day) and you should be fine.
