Confused--Train from Paris to Saarbruecken HBF to Trier. Germany

I booked tickets to get us from Paris to Trier. The first TGV train gives us a coach # and seat#. The second train, when I booked, gave us a departing and arrival time from Saarbruecken. I received my tickets in the mail ( the only way they offered). Our tickets for the first leg of the route lists coach and seat#, but the second train to Trier,(not a TGV) doesn't even list times (as noted on the website when ordering. It states ticket is valid within a 15 day period. My question is, do we use this ticket on any train and at any seat? It states in the paperwork that open point-to-point tickets must be used within validity period ... And tickets do not guarantee a seat on a train unless reservations are secure in advance????? First, I wasn't aware I was purchasing an open ended ticket (if that's what I truely have). I'm thinking that we get on a train to Trier and sit wherever we want. I don't know if we need to do anything else as far as getting a seat reservation?? Feeling pretty insecure right now....

The train from Saarbrucken to Trier is the hourly Regional Express. It is all open seating and unreserved. There is also an hourly Regional Bahn that goes on the half hour. Just get on the next train to Trier when you arrive at Saarbrucken. You have a valid ticket. This trains are more like city buses. I can't even recall if they have seat numbers.

Thanks. I have been reading more info and have decided that is what we should do. I guess what confused me was that when I placed the order there was a time and train listed, but when I received the tickets they were open ended. As long as we get to Trier I'm fine:))
