Condor/Luftansa question

We are booked on Condor to Frankfurt. When I originally booked the ticket, we had a 3 hour layover in Frankfurt as we are on our way to Amsterdam and then it switches to Luftanasa. Of course, they changed our flight time and now we have a 6 hour layover in Frankfurt before departing to Amsterdam. There is another flight on Luftansa from Frankfurt to Amsterdam before the one we are scheduled on. So I called and tried to switch us to the earlier flight, but they want a change fee, which I am not willing to pay.

My question is; do I have any chance of being able to get on that earlier Luftansa flight once we are in Frankfurt, provided there is room on the plane without having to pay the change fee?

I've never experienced a Lufthansa staff member who wasn't politely, strictly by the book. So I doubt it, but no harm in asking.

Is your return trip on the same ticket/itinerary?

You don't say when you're travelling - lots of reports saying the current messiness at airports could extend into early fall.

Are you checking or carry on only? They usually don't like bags travelling differently than passengers and they won't likely go digging to find yours.

Do you have status? Always helps your cause.

Other than that you're at their mercy - catch a nice gate agent, return the being nice and see what comes of it - but all niceties aside, they'll likely still want you to pay a change fee.

Oh yeah, it's spelt LUFTHANSA

Be careful asking for the change at the airport if you have a round-trip ticket. If the agent at the airport doesn’t make the switch to the earlier flight correctly in the ticket/itinerary, you could be counted as a “no-show” on the original (later) Lufthansa flight. In which case your return ticket could be canceled entirely.

We had this happen with domestic flights on Alaska once. We eventually got it worked out, but it was a hassle.

Of course if you booked your flight to .Amsterdam as a one-way, it won’t matter.

I’ve no experience with Lufthansa but twice on recent trips I was able to get a change like you want. But just a few weeks ago - no luck. Several seats available that would have given us a more desirable itinerary; request denied both in person and on the phone.

Never hurts to try though.

Thanks for the replies. In answer to questions
Yes, it’s a round trip ticket
Yes, we are doing carry on only
We are traveling in 15 days ( ugh, dreading the airport mess, but what can we do)?

Thanks Lola, I am taking note if we do manage to get a change

You don't have to do anything, you still have a flight booked out of Frankfurt, the sky isn't falling - and if 3 hours means that much, then just pay the piper and fly on the earlier flight.

Tammy- I’d asked if your return was on the same ticket because if not, you could maybe take a train from FRA to AMS. (Though it would cost and not save that much time.)

But abandoning a leg would cancel the rest of the ticket, so that’s not an option.

Hi,
i would call up the airline who issued your ticket and ask them just to be sure. My Parents and I will be flying Lufthansa Condor back from TLV via Frankfurt to SFO in their Premium cabin.

For $170 more were getting extra legroom from FRA to SFO and seats in the front fron TLV and all drinks and entertainment included. Plus I wil get bonus Alaska miles with a promotion.

It was worth the upcharge on a 12 hour day flight. Business was $2100 one way so for $870 one way were getting more legroom when other airlines its regular Economy. There were less expensive optoons with self transfers on budget carriers with overnight that would eat the $300 savings

I just flew Condor in Premium Economy to Frankfurt last month. It was really uncomfortable. Really just one of their regular seats with extra legroom. They gave us a menu with premium food choices which was a total joke, since they only had one of the options, and my roll was frozen solid! I am sure it was better than their economy seat, those looked super cramped. I wouldn't book them again, however. I found the regular economy seats on Delta and British Air to be much more comfortable.

Shannon, we have now taken our first flight on Condor and I agree, economy was the most cramped space of any airline I have ever flown.
