Condor Flight Question

We are taking our adult son to Paris in early January and we bought tickets on Condor for flights from Seattle that connect to CDG after flying to Frankfurt. My wife and I will be spending a few days longer in France than our son and decided to spend a few days in Strasbourg. It would be easier to get to Frankfurt the night before our flight home rather than returning to CDG, so I called and talked to someone at Condor who said that to simply drop the connecting flight from CDG to FRA would cost us $660 but that if we were to "miss" that connecting flight, Condor will not cancel the Frankfurt to Seattle leg of our ticket.

Am I right to be a little leery of this verbal "guarantee"? Can anyone think of a way that I could get something written from Condor guaranteeing they won't cancel the flight if we miss the connecting flight? Thanks in advance.

This means that once you pay the $660 to change your original itinerary to fly out of Frankfurt instead of Paris then it is guaranteed. It is not a verbal agreement once you pay the $660.

The distance by train between Strasbourg and CDG and Strasbourg to Frankfurt Airport is about the same so I would not pay $660 to change the flight considering that you should go to city that you are flying out of the night before and not on the same day is your flight back.

What I am being told verbally from the one person at Condor that I talked to is that if I "miss" my connecting flight from CDG to FRA on 1/17 is that they won't cancel my flight home from FRA to SEA the same day. I am hoping to avoid paying the $660 to essentially just cancel the CDG to FRA connecting flight on 1/17 but am wondering if there is any way to get some written guarantee from Condor.

You have to pay $660 to cancel CDG to FRA so do not skip it otherwise Frankurt to Seattle will be cancelled. Those are the conditions of the ticket you originally decided to purchase. The least expensive kinds of tickets always have the most restrictions and penalties if you change.

I checked FlyerTalk for posts with a similar situation that said Condor does not cancel the whole itinerary if you “miss” one of the flights as long as it’s on one ticket. BUT people also note that it’s always a gamble with Condor.

You would need to contact Condor, again, and have them send you, via email or otherwise, their assurance that missing the 1st flight does not result in a cancellation of the 2nd flight. Or have them direct you to the section of the ticket 'rules', that clearly states that is permitted.
It would be unusual for an airline to not cancel subsequent flights when an earlier/first flight is missed.

If it isn't in writing, it never happened.

Thanks - you have all confirmed my suspicions and I will not "miss" the flight without some written assurance from Condor. I'm trying to avoid another flight and a short layover in Frankfurt; the difference between spending the night at CDG or FRA is minimal.

Just for kicks I googled. “Yes, Condor has a "no-show" rule that can lead to the cancellation of your return flight and forfeiture of the ticket's value, even for non-refundable tickets. If you are a no-show for your outbound flight, any subsequent flights on the same itinerary, including the return flight, will likely be canceled, and you will not receive a refund for the unused portion.” AI

I wondered because several years ago the boarding gate agent in San Francisco got distracted then frustrated trying to scan my passport upside down and said, “just go board.” The system must have shown me “missing” because when we went to board our connection in Frankfurt my boarding pass was invalid and they had given away my seat. The gate agents there did a whole bunch of computer checking and finally gave me a boarding pass. Moral of story….always make sure your boarding pass beeps when you go to board.
