Condor Airlines - recent experiences?

Has anybody had any recent experience with Condor Airlines from the USA to Europe?

Condor is now part of Thomas Cook, a British company, I believe. But, it operates out of Germany.

I find that they have the best flight schedule for me at a good price. But..... reviews I have read are not that good. Obviously, people who have a bad experience are more likely to write a review. But, the positive ones seem rather rare even allowing for that. And most reviews are at least two years old if not more. A lot can happen in the airline business in two years.

My gut impression is that if everything goes well, Condor is an OK airline to fly. But, if there is a problem (weather delay, mechanical delay, flight cancelled, staff call in sick, etc.) there is not much support to get the traveler to his/her destination.

I would appreciate hearing from people who have used Condor in the past 12 months.

I flew them in January. This is my third trip to Europe with them. I like them very much - I think all airlines fall apart and make me unhappy during a long delay situation - Condor's no worse than any other one for me. We had a delay out of Seattle on one of our outbound trips a few years back. They brought in coolers of sodas and juices and huge stacks of sandwiches and chips and cookies for all of us. Never had any other airline do that for me.

Their premium economy is pretty comfortable and the audio/video options are amongst my favorite flying so far.

We don't have a ton of nonstops to Europe from Seatac so I usually have to start my trips in Germany. Condor's my first choice.

And one other thing - on my last trip home I had a Premium Economy ticket. For $220 I was able to upgrade that to Business Class. It was awesome. If you're super budget oriented, I can often find flights for $450 each way, non stop, Seattle to Frankfurt and now they're adding in a Seattle to Munich nonstop as well.

I have flown on them for each of the last three years and have another flight scheduled this spring. I originally selected them as they fly direct to Europe (Frankfurt) from Anchorage. I have been impressed with them each flight. They fly what appears to me to be new equipment with all the bells & whistles, are very well staffed, and on board service has been excellent. They don't mind if you walk around the cabin or stop in at the galley for a drink.

The only burp I have experienced with them was last June when my flight from Frankfurt to Anchorage was delayed several hours. I'm a go-with-the-flow type of guy so it wasn't a big deal to me. I can't speak to their Business Class or Premium Economy Service, I'm strictly an el-cheapo economy seat guy. I can put up with ANYTHING for 10 hours :), but I don't find it bad at all. I watch movies on my iPad as long as I can and before I know it we have arrived. A busy mind is a distracted mind!

Before each flight in Frankfurt they try really hard to get passengers to upgrade from economy to premium economy to business class with some pretty good prices. I do pay the extra fee to get assigned seats, as I prefer a window seat in the rear of the aircraft. I have paid extra for their premium meals just to try them out and they were very good, but the normal meals provided are very good too so now I go with the standard meals.

It's true that with 4 flights a week to/from Anchorage, should a flight be cancelled I may be stuck for a day or get re-routed through Seattle but that isn't a problem for me. Just part of the experience.

Their service reminds me of flying with Western/Northwest/Alaska Airlines back in the 80's and 90's.
