I am combining a visit to Belgium and Amsterdam with walking in the Highlands of Scotland. I'm planning on flying into Brussels. And then was going to get a one way ticket Amsterdam to Edinburgh flying home from Inverness. Part of the reason I'm doing this is that I'm meeting up with some friends from Amsterdam who are also walking and we thought we'd travel together to Scotland.
So the issue is that the one way flight that they are taking is over 700 euros. You can get connections via London for less than $150. I can get a round trip for 208 euros. They break out the price for you: 127. 53 / 71.44 return.
I have two questions. First, what's the jeopardy these days for buying a round trip ticket and then ditching the return? Second, what is the best train site for train travel in the Netherlands, specifically Netherlands to Brussels.
