We will be leaving Lauterbrunnen, SW via train would like to cross into France and rent a car for a 2 day leisurely drive to the CHR airport near Paris. I am having a hard time determining where might be the best place to do this. The obvious choice would be one of the airports, but it should be easy to avoid the airport and associated 40 Eur or so airport pickup charge.
On a related topic, I am using the scheduling tools on both http://www.sbb.ch and http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de, neither provide the actual address of the stations, or at least I have not found them yet. Right now I am thinking that the station identified as Mulhouse Ville may be a reasonable choice, although it really is just a random downtown that seem to be easy to get to via train.
Update-I have found that http://www.raileurope-world.com/ does provide station addresses.
Use google maps to see the station location. You can also map out the car rental locations. You can even use google street view to "walk" your way between them (if the country allows street view, France does).
edit-I see that Avis has a location at the train station in Mulhouse.
If you use Google maps to find a station, you can just request "Mulhouse Ville," without entering a street address. Geneva doesn't sound like the most convenient point for your route, but if you wanted to pick up a car at Geneva airport, then ask the car rental agent to confirm it on the French side of the airport.
