What would be the best scenic route to take if we want to drive to chamonix from colmar and have half a day?
We would be travelling to interlaken also later in the week so wouldn't want to go through the berner oberland area.

Even the quickest route, via Basil, Berne, and Lausanne, is likely to take 5 hours or more. So if you want half a day at the end I don't think you can afford any detours.
You will need to purchase a vignette (driving permit) for Switzerland.

That's 5 hours, each way - by car, which is 2 hours faster than by train.
It is impossible - scenic route or not scenic route - to do in a day and leave half a day for sightseeing there. Unless you like driving each way at night??
The idea of driving over 10 hours in a day for 4 hours there interests me not at all. I hope you are different.

We are basically going from colmar to chamonix and understand the easiest would be to drive...trains are slower and with many changes.
So was thinking if anyway we are driving is it possible to make use of the time.
