Hi all,
First of all I would like to give a sincere thanks to everyone who answers questions on this board. I am leaving one week from today for my first solo trip and I could not be more excited.
Now down to business. I am taking a short jaunt to continent (10 days) from Ireland to meet up with a friend in Amsterdam as she has spent the last month in France. I am flying into Brussels on Ryanair, which I know actually goes about an hour south, but I have managed to find instructions from their to Brussels. I would like to make a short (2-3 day trip) into the Alsace region, given that I read many books about the region when I was young and it always fascinated me... Probably Colmar as it comes highly recommended,
and was searching the Deutche Bahn site for train schedules. Most of the schedules go through Paris, which I would like to avoid.
The only one I have found is called the IC 91, it takes about 6 hours and goes through luxembourg and strasbourg, along with many smaller towns along the way. Basically, I was wondering if anyone knew a better way to get to Colmar, a stopover in lovely quaint town would be fine. Also is there a way to estimate the fare for this ride, given that I do not have a railpass, as my train taking countries are limited to Benelux and small bits of france.
Thanks again
If you want to avoid Paris, your best choice is the direct IC 91 train you found. The standard 2nd class fare is €74.10.
You could take the 11:10 train from Brussels to CDG, the 12:54 train from CDG to Strasbourg, and the 15:53 train from Strasbourg to Colmar. However, the fare for Brussels-CDG is €71 and the combined fare for CDG-Strasbourg-Colmar is €75.70.
