Hello all, Having trouble getting answers from DB Bahn, Euraide, and RailEurope. 4 of us are travelling from Amsterdam to Munich on September 22 and plan on taking an overnight train. The CNL schedule for this trip only goes through August 22 and has not changed for several weeks. We can take a one stop trip but would love the CNL sleeper option. Anyone know if the CNL may be extended past 8/22? We will be booking on June 22, 90 days prior to this trip. Thanks for any input. Jeff & Dianne
This issue came up on the helpline a week or so ago. It sounds like DB may be changing this train. Right now, it is running from Koblenz to Munich after August 22. It will leave Koblenz at 40 past midnight. So It looks like you will need to get a train Koblenz to catch it.
Edit- You might shoot an email to DB and ask specifically about this train.
Thanks Sam, we'll look at that route. Contacted DB and didn't get a straight answer.
Since daytime trains still take 7.5-8.5 hours, I doubt that DB will abandon this CNL service, but might adjust it, or it could be affected by construction. Euraide has offices and close contacts at Munich train station, so I think they could give you the best English explanation. However, when schedules are not yet published, speculation is just that. If it does not go on sale on June 22, then I'd check about weekly after that.
Hi Dianne and Jeff, I just called Deutsche Bahn as there is no information on the website other than it operates until the 21st of August. DB confirmed to me that the train really only operates between Koblenz and Innsbruck (via Munich) from August 22nd.
Because of major railroad reconstructions near Venlo the train is definitely not going to operate in Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec of 2014 - and in light of a wide choice of cheap flights between the Netherlands and Bavaria the reservation agent speculated it might not get reintruduced at all.
