Closed Thello Train

Hello, My family and I were planning to take the Thello night train from Paris to Venice on August 23rd but have just discovered that the train will not be running from Aug. 11th to Sept 2nd due to construction. Any ideas of other trains we can take overnight? This is the last item on our trip to book. We already have all our attractions tickets and hotel rooms and without taking a night train our whole trip will be thrown off. I appreciate your time!

There is also a route that goes Paris Est to Mannheim (ICE 9557, departs 1710), connecting at Mannheim for Munich (ICE 693, departs 2030), and finally a City Night Line train to Venice (CNL 363, departs 2340). This would put you into Venice at 0834. Transfer times between trains are 13 minutes each. I got the above info from the Deutsche Bahn website.

Tom has given you a good alternative night train route. However, at this late date the discount fares for the Munich-Venice CNL train are gone. Flying will be a lot cheaper. If you're able to add a night in either Paris or Venice, you still can get cheap non-stop plane tickets on either easyJet from Orly to Marco Polo (VCE) or Ryanair from Beauvais to Treviso. Be aware that both Beauvais and Treviso are outlying airports so you'll have extra time and expense getting to and from them. If the timing is right, fly easyJet.

If you decide to take the train, do two separate bookings on the German Rail site. 1. Paris-Muenchen (with a connection in Mannheim). 2. Muenchen-Venezia Santa Lucia.

I was about to add the suggestion to further split the trip into Munich>Verona and Verona>Venice for the ability to buy the first leg at the cheaper and easier-to-use Deutsche Bahn site, BUT...they've changed this route, and for the better! YEA!!! So no problems - do as Tim says! And ASAP for best prices. (If only it had been this way last fall (sigh)...) Vacation saved!

Thank you everyone for your responses! I looked into both the new train route and flying and it looks like even with an extra night at our hotel in Paris that flying will be the best plan. Thanks and Happy traveling!
