IS there any advantage in buying the train ticket from Civitevvio to Rome? I'm coming from the ferry and I'm not sure of the disembarkation time.

Danny, I've never taken the trip from Civitavechia to Rome, but wouldn't bother trying to pre-purchase a ticket. Some of the trains will be Regionale, so you won't be able to buy those online anyway. You may find it very helpful to have a look at the excellent Ron In Rome website and this link: http://www.roninrome.com/%20transportation/cruising-come-to-rome-for-the-day-2 If you do decide to travel by train, BE SURE to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train, as those caught with unvalidated tickets face hefty fines, which will be collected on the spot! The fines start at €50 per person and double if not paid on the spot. Happy travels!
