Citynightline

Does anyone know of something new going on with Citynightline and it's website? We have looked at their site a few times but noticed how if you try to go to the citynightline.ch site it goes to db site in german instead of the normal page. I'm able to find the site via google. The route map is still there but there's a note about only being good thru 9.12.07. And you cannot test book a ticket to see prices, etc (error message).

We aren't traveling til May '08 but curious if there is omething changing with this service we should know about in case we need to make other plans.

Michael, I bought our reservations for our night train in May through the CNL website a few weeks ago and it was working fine, however I just checked it and it is as you say - it has a big error message. I already got our tickets via email, but it does make me mildly concerned.

Anyone out there know what's going on?

With the schedule change of Dec 7th, DB German Rail have remodeled all their night trains. Now all night trains are operated under the CityNightLine brand as the only night train brand. Deutsche Bahn own both the German ÁutoZug GmbH who operate Nachtug night trains as well as the Swiss CityNightLine AG. So now you can purchase any CNL product on bahn.de and citynightline.ch. I suppose this is why there may be some interruptions on their website at the moment.

The buchung.nachtzugreise.de website redirects you now to DB as well, but they still seem to have all the offers (like SparNight).

I think I see two significant changes from the old Nachtzugreise and CNL websites.

You can no longer book one person in a double compartment (and share it with a stranger). If you query for 1 person it only gives you the single compartment option.

Second, it no longer has online booking (or shows the price) for reservation (Aufpreis only).

I imagine you can still book these by calling them, but it makes it more difficult than before, particularly for rail pass holders.

wow! this new CNL site is amazing! It looks like the CNL network has been greatly expanded. For example there are now a direct night trains from Amsterdam-Milan, Amsterdam-Prague, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Paris-Munich, Amsterdam-Vienna, and Basel-Prague. You can see the new map here: http://tinyurl.com/2pswsq
You CAN still buy tickets on-line: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de
