Is there something I am not understanding about how maps like Citymaps2go actually work? I am in the U.S. now, but I want to download maps for an upcoming stay in Venice, and plan routes from my hotel to sites and to the airport. So far, it seems very difficult to use. Am I missing something? Or will Google Maps do just as well?

I don't know anything about the map program you reference, but I use CityMapper and you can access maps for their covered cities on the app or on desktop and use it to plan routes. No need to be in the location to do that. Others use Google Maps just fine as well.

Like CL, I can't help you with Cutymaps2go.
I've also used Citymapper app for several years in both Europe and the US. It gives precise directions for walks and public transportation as well as taxi info when appropriate.

I also use the citymapper app while on a trip.
I ues google maps before a trip while checking distances, and often take a screenshot of routes I plan to use.
Hopefully somebody who has used the app you mention will see this post.
