Cities by their "non-English" name on the DB website

I'm looking up train schedules between cities in Eastern Europe on the DB website. Western Europe was easier, because the city's names in the native tongue are more common, but not so much in Eastern Europe. Example: I'm trying to look up Plitvice, but the suggested city that comes up is Vrhovi-Plitvi Jezera. How in the world do I know if this is the same? When searching for these train schedules, how can I look up each city's name in the native tongue so I make sure that I'm looking at the right schedule?

Amy; I've always relied on my Michelin Europe "Atlas Routier et Touristique" which I bought in France 5 years ago. It's basically a spiral bound atlas of Europe for auto travellers; not unlike the AAA products.

Generally, the cities/sites in the Michelin atlas that I have, spell the city names in the 'language' of the country in which the city is located. For example, Vienna is Wien; Prague is Praha; Cologne is Koln; Brussels is Bruxelles; Venice is Venezia; and even Rome is Roma. The atlas shows Plitvice as Plitvice and Plitvicka-jezera (unusual to show both) with a small town to the immediate south named Plitvicki Ljeskovac.

I can't speak to the Michelin map/atlas products sold in N.America, but check out your local book store for Michelin maps/atlas products and I expect they, too, list the cities with the local spelling.

I think, but am not certain, that all the Michelin products are done that way in view of their main customers being non-North American.

Even easier, Amy; it appears Google Maps on your computer operates the same as Michelin. Rome on GMaps is Roma, etc., etc. Find Croatia on GMaps and zoom in on the area you know to be Plitvice.

Hi Amy,

Unless I am mistaken, is Plitvice not the name of the national park and not a town? Plitvice Jezera seems to mean "Plitvice Lakes". You might be better off searching for rail transit to a nearby town instead of trying to search to the park/lakes themselves.

Your problem may be that the train does not near Plitvice.
