Try this Rome2Rio search 6 hours by train but with several changes $70. Only a little longer and a little cheaper by bus. I don't know that journey at all, but it looks such a spectacular route all along the coast that I'd want to do it by day to see the view; also because those changes would be a nuisance by night. You can use that site to link to the schedules - just click on each segment on the left-hand side. Also important to enter you date in case of daily variations.
Another way to look just for the train times is on the German European railways site - I made a guess for your date, but there are some with just one change, at Genova. Click on the red arrow to see the details.
If you delete threads people don't learn from the experience.
Use the DBahn as on the travel hints to see for yourself what connections are required.
The deleted thread had good advice that the Italian network has removed most night trains and more are going.
You didn't answer the questions in the thread you deleted.
Nigel - if that comment is aimed at me, you are mistaken. I found I had inadvertently duplicated my post, so I deleted the repeat. As far as I know, one can only delete (or edit) one's own posts on this forum (unless you are a moderator, presumably, which I certainly am not). I did see the DE Bahn information in the sticky after I posted but thought the OP would probably find it anyway so I didn't come back to alter my post to point to it.
no, cgichard, the OP originally posted about Dolomites to Nice by night train which attracted several responses and info about the Moscow - Nice run. He/She has deleted that thread...
A few years ago I took the train from Monterosso to Nice. Leaving early in the morning (7am or so), the regional commuter train ride ended at Genoa. I changed trains there and again in Ventimiglia, arriving in Nice around noon.
Rail Europe is also a good site to look up schedules.
"Rail Europe is also a good site to look up schedules."
Actually, Rail Europe is NOT a good site to look up schedules, as they tend to be limited to only those routes that they sell tickets for. One of the best websites to check rail schedules anywhere in Europe is the Bahn.de (German Rail) website.
the muse,
Using a night train from the Cinque Terre to Nice is not the best choice, as it's a relatively short trip and easily done during the day. Night trains will take considerably longer, and some have several changes at various times during the night, so you likely wouldn't be getting much sleep.
There are numerous trains on that route every day, with travel times of ~5 - 6 hours and 1-3 changes. Although it means an early start, you could use a departure from Monterosso at 06:54, arriving Nice Ville at 12:31 (time 5H:37M, two changes at Genova Piazza Principe and Ventimiglia).
I'd like to add that I heartily concur with Nigel's comments about deleting Threads. Something to think about......
Rail Europe is absolutely NOT a good resource for schedule information. They are a third party, ticket reselling company. Always use the national rail carrier of the country where you trip originates for the best information.
There has not any overnight train from Nice to Italy for several years. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the recommended DB train schedule link and tips for using it. If you see a departure that looks like it travels overnight, check the details. In this case, you will find yourself sitting in a train station for most of that time, not on a train.
